It is called a Sponsorship Licence and is compulsory to obtain for any company that wishes to employ non-EU nationals. Sponsorship is based on two key principles, that firstly UK institutions that benefit most from skilled migration share the responsibility for helping to prevent abuse of the system. And secondly, the system aims to ensure that those coming to the UK are eligible to do so, and that they have a genuine offer of a place of work or study and therefore sponsorship.
A prospective sponsor will apply to the Border and Immigration Agency to be granted this licence. When successfully licensed, a sponsor can apply for a number of certificates of sponsorship, which they can then present to their people whom they intend to sponsor. Once a prospective employee has been allocated a certificate of sponsorship, he or she will be eligible to apply for UK entry clearance. The certificate does not guarantee that the prospective employee will get a work permit but is an essential part of their application form.

This category allows overseas employers to bring their domestic workers with them during their visits or moves to the United Kingdom. To qualify as a domestic worker the applicant should have been working for their employer for a least one year. This visa is given for a fixed period of time but can be extended. The domestic worker has to remain in their category throughout their stay in the UK. The domestic worker is entitled to permanent residence (Indefinite Leave to Remain) after staying in the UK for 5 years.

This visa is for a sports visit of up to six months. Multiple entry visas are available for sports visitors for six months, and one, two, five and 10 years. Sports visit will include the following type of activities:
- Taking part a particular sporting event, tournament or series of events
- Taking part in a specific one-off charity sporting event
- Being a member of the support staff of a visiting sportsperson or an official (including those officials coming on a voluntary basis) attending the same event as the visiting sportsperson
- Undertaking personal appearances or promotional activities
- Undertaking a trial provided it is not in front of an audience, or training provided that they are not basing themselves here and they participate in friendly or exhibition matches only
In order to be granted a sports visa you must show that you only want to visit the United Kingdom for up to six months and plan to leave at the end of your visit. You should also show you have enough funds (money) to support yourself during your stay and that you are based abroad. This visa does not give a right to work in the United Kingdom. This visa can only be extended for a total period of 6 months. You cannot switch into another category unless they already have a certificate of sponsorship the creative and sporting category of tier 5 that was issued before you came to the United Kingdom. You can bring your spouse or partner and dependants with you.

This visa is for an entertainer visit of up to six months. Multiple entry visas are available for entertainer visitors for six months, and one, two, five and 10 years. Entertainer visit will include the following type of activities:
- Taking part as a professional in one or more music competitions
- Fulfilling one or more specific engagements as an individual amateur entertainer or as part of an amateur group
- Taking part as either an amateur or professional in a cultural event that is included in the list of specific events to which this applies
- Being a member of the support staff of a visiting entertainer or an official attending the same event as the visiting entertainer
- Taking part in broadcasts or public appearances provided you are not being paid
- do an audition provided this is not performed in front of an audience

Youth Mobility Workers Scheme - this visa is for young people from participating countries who would like to experience life in the United Kingdom. This visa gives a right to live and work in the United Kingdom for a maximum period of 24 months.
Nationals of the following countries are eligible to apply for this visa: Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand.
Under the youth mobility scheme, the applicant's national government is the sponsor. In order to be granted a this visa you must be a national of a country taking part in the scheme, and have a valid national passport from that country, which will be all the evidence you need to show that you are sponsored by the government of your country to apply for a visa under the scheme.
In order to apply you should be a citizen of a country taking part in the scheme or a British overseas citizen, British overseas territories citizen or a British national (overseas). You should also be between 18 and 31 years old when you apply and have ?1,600 available to you.

EEA / EU and Swiss nationals have THE RIGHT OF RESIDENCE - the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. You will only have the right of residence in the United Kingdom if you are:
- a jobseeker
- a worker
- a self-employed person
- a self-sufficient person (someone who can support themselves financially)
- a student
Your Family members who are not EEA or Swiss nationals can join you. They will need apply for a Family permit if outside in the UK or Residence Card if in the UK.
Exceptions:
National of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia or Slovenia - need to - Register under the Worker Registration Scheme when you take work in the United Kingdom and are not eligible to apply for a residence card until they have completed 12 months of continuous employment in the United Kingdom. Non-EEA national family members can apply for a family member residence stamp to confirm their right of residence under European law.
Nationals of Bulgaria or Romania can also enter and remain in the UK as self-employed, self-sufficient or as student but cannot work until have been given permission.
Permanent residence
Once you have lived in the United Kingdom for a continuous period of five years, you are entitled to apply for confirmation of permanent residence.
